Alhambra Source 2013!

Here are a few recent developments: 

Below are two pages of sketches from my sketchbook and also the thumbnail sheet I sent to the Alhambra Source for a story on a Cuban girl whose history of being bullied has had a debilitating effect on her ability to speak to others.

There was another story on the Mars Curiosity project that my buddy Mike wrote up for the ALhambra source. I created a collage for this piece which is not how I usually work, but it worked out just fine.

Symptoms

Paul Wong has written an account of his time spent abroad in Shanghai for The Alhambra Source online newsletter. The article shares his thoughts and feelings of being an ABC or American Born Chinese and I can relate in some ways. Here's a link to the article:

This is an issue with many people-- knowing who we are or where we come from is not always as easy as it seems and it can drive you a little crazy sometimes. So I hoped to convey that with the flag eyeballs, at least to some degree.

Philosophers' Love Edition 2

A gouache version of a piece I made earlier in the year based on some article in some magazine that talked about how many great philosophers were phenomenal men of thought but lacked in the love department.

I finally got an assignment from The New York Times!

This was a spot for a book review of A PIMP's NOTES by Giorgio Faletti. 

And much thanks to Rex Bonomelli for his art direction!

Below are the different versions I came up with and I believe they are using the version with the wine-colored wine, the purplish one at the end of the line - don't know yet, but we will soon~

X Culture

A couple months ago I was drawing with a bunch of people in a park for an Alhambra Source function. We drew food together and somebody came up with with a pair a chopsticks and some other genius said that the chopsticks should be holding a taco. Here's what I made of it:

This is the cross culture that I grew up with and what I think about now when someone asks me about southern California.

This is a kind of different illustration for me, digital color and all.

Rory Ferrier, Treehouse and Hokusai

This gold and black piece is for an upcoming album by Rory Ferriera. I'm super happy that he contacted me for his new music. More to come regarding him and the album. This piece is titled, THINGS THAT HAPPEN AT NIGHT.

This is a drawing of my dad's friend's treehouse. I have a finished version waiting to be scanned.

Port Discovery - Baltimore, Maryland

This was a collaboration that I did with our dear friend Jordan Jones for the childrens' museum: Port Discovery in Baltimore. The original idea was to have this long mural span the perimeter of their indoor soccer field. HOWEVER, the project was killed and so were our egos. Here is what we had:

Here are drawings from this past week. I've been collecting trash papers to draw on. There are a few pages of sketchbook from Providence, the buildings mostly, and the weirder drawings are inspired by Gary Taxali and the fact that the Mega-Bus kept breaking down. Questions? Comments?
