Noir for The New York Times!
This will be in the October 28th issue of the New York Times Book Review
I finally got an assignment from The New York Times!
This was a spot for a book review of A PIMP's NOTES by Giorgio Faletti.
And much thanks to Rex Bonomelli for his art direction!
Below are the different versions I came up with and I believe they are using the version with the wine-colored wine, the purplish one at the end of the line - don't know yet, but we will soon~

X Culture
A couple months ago I was drawing with a bunch of people in a park for an Alhambra Source function. We drew food together and somebody came up with with a pair a chopsticks and some other genius said that the chopsticks should be holding a taco. Here's what I made of it:
This is the cross culture that I grew up with and what I think about now when someone asks me about southern California.
This is a kind of different illustration for me, digital color and all.

Immigration Nation
Daniela Gerson and Gordon Ip concocted a great article on immigrants and one individual's sudden and alarming encounter with his illegal status.
This was the first drawing I first sent them, but they opted for something else... as shown below.

Rory Ferrier, Treehouse and Hokusai
This gold and black piece is for an upcoming album by Rory Ferriera. I'm super happy that he contacted me for his new music. More to come regarding him and the album. This piece is titled, THINGS THAT HAPPEN AT NIGHT.
This is a drawing of my dad's friend's treehouse. I have a finished version waiting to be scanned.
A sketchbook spread by Hokusai who is always inspiring.

Rush Hour
One for my series on trash(y) papers. This one is from June 22, 2012. I think I was reading the graphic novel: EPILEPTIC by David B- which made a gash in my heart.
