From sketch to near finish:
Recently I've been really digging into Yuko Shimizu's work and so I felt inspired to try working a different way. Something about getting to do the drawing by hand and color by computer seems like a comfortable spot for me. I'm trying it out.
In addition to Yuko I've been looking through American illustration annuals, finding images I like and copying them into my sketchbook. It works well as a method of documenting what I like and I often find that redrawing images I like helps me explore different ways of handling medium (since I have to imitate the original artist's hand).
I have a few flies in my sketchbooks too which I keep from decaying by covering them with tape. This is a good way to track the number of flies that you have murdered with the pages of your artwork.
